Ben's butterfly house

Many residents already know of Ben Brook’s passion for all things lepidopteran (and more), but he’s taken it to a new level recently, building a superb butterfly house on his property at Toorour to rear some of the less common of our local butterflies. Come inside to discover more.

Even though its in the early stages of development, Ben’s butterfly house already has some impressive inhabitants, for example, the largest and most spectacular of the districts butterflies, the Orchard Swallowtail (Papilio agaeus), also known as the Large Citrus Butterfly.

Next season, Ben hopes to have several species of butterfly at all stages of development on display. He’s specially keen to have the larvae of different butterflies living on potted plants that can be taken to the Strathbogie Primary School for the kids to enjoy. Good on you Ben.
