Seen on Spring Creek Road, I don’t know if this practice works as a deterrent to foxes as such. However, it does serve as a reminder to the rest of us of just how many foxes are out there and the damage they do. An opportunistic scourge of indigenous wildlife, they prey on any creature they can tackle including insects, platypus (two recently attacked and found dead on Spring Creek) and our precious marsupials. They have a direct impact on larger animals by spreading the likes of mange. Their omnivorous diet loads their scat with pest plant seeds such as blackberry.

On many levels these are an invasive species with a dramatic impact. Foxes are not cute. Foxes are not pretty wildlife pets to feed at your back door. For every other creatures’ sake, foxes are better off dead!
