This common and widespread species occur in open country right across Australia. During migration they fly steadily 1m to 3 m above the ground , sometimes descending in large numbers onto garden flowers. Most years they appear in our district during October & November . Some years they appear in modest numbers but in others they fly in many thousands for several weeks.
Males are currently fluttering around in groups looking to mate with newly emerged females.
I was in Wang yesterday morning and also saw plenty of Caper Whites flying around suburban backyards. Saw few if any Cabbage Whites.
Thanks Tony!
Common again here in Wangaratta today Bert. A migration southeast underway.
In the last few days of mild weather I’ve seen Caper White Butterflies at lots of different places; they certainly seem to be widespread at the moment: Boho South, Upotipotpon, Kelvin View, Violet Town.
