Red Bellied Black Snakes are active now .
You will spot them on roads , rocks and other warm spots now that the sun is begining to warm the ground.

Early in the season they are sluggish and disinclined to move away so take great care when walking in the bush .

This large thick red-bellied black snake was basking on a sandbank in the Hughes Creek. It was slow to react when Jim approach to get a close photograph.

It show no hesitation in taking to the water as a means of escaping his approach. It was a capable swimmer , quickly disappearing under the water before Jim had a chance to focus his camera.
