Our fox populations are on the increase and with many farmers switching from sheep to cattle regular fox baiting campaigns have been neglected.
In Ruffy, the locals hold fox drives a few times a year , one team ‘beats the bush’ from the top of Ruffy , down passed our place towards Creightons Creek and the shooting team hide and wait for the flushed foxes to emerge at the bottom of the hill. Most landholders give permission for the hunters to across their properties. The number of foxes shot on the last hunt varies according to who you speak to , somewhere between 60 and 45 bodies were picked up .
Check out this photo to see how fat & sleek the foxes are this year !
(It is traditional for the fox bodies to be displayed on one particular section of fence at the corner of the Boathole Rd & Nolans Rd.)
